Special COVID-19 Call for Projects Grants with Japan – Deadline 30 August 2020

Switzerland launched a new special COVID-19 Call for Project Grants between Swiss and Japanese academia. Proposals of all scientific disciplines and fields of research including social sciences and humanities are accepted. Selected projects will receive a grant sum of max. 25k CHF for a duration of up to 12 months.

Chugai Starts Phase III Clinical Trial of Actemra for COVID-19 Pneumonia in Japan

Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 4519) announced that it is working to start a Phase III clinical trial in Japan with the humanized anti-human IL-6 receptor monoclonal antibody, “Actemra® Intravenous Infusion 80 mg, 200 mg, and 400 mg” [generic name: tocilizumab (genetical recombination)] in COVID-19 pneumonia.

Numab Therapeutics and the Japanese based Ono Pharmaceutical have extended their relationship by executing another research and option agreement to discover and develop a multi-specific antibody drug candidate for the treatment of various cancers. Ono will again pay to Numab up to CHF 260 million in upfront and milestone payments.

Mitsubishi Chemical to Acquire European Engineering Plastics Recycling Companies

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation recently decided that it will acquire two Swiss engineering plastics recyclers, Minger Kunststofftechnik AG and Minger Plastic AG (collectively, the Minger Group), through its group company Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials as a part of the company’s efforts to promote the circular economy. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of February this year.
