NIIGATA — The Niigata municipal government Sunday showed Group of 20 and other officials devices for smart agriculture, such as an autonomous rice-planting machine and a drone.
The government let the officials see the demonstration of the devices it is conducting with partners including an agricultural equipment maker.
With a curious look, officials watched rice seedlings automatically planted.
The unmanned rice-planting machine analyzes soil with sensors on the wheels so that fertilizer can be applied efficiently, while the camera-mounted drone sprays pesticides and captures images of rice seedlings and grown plants for analysis.
