Swiss co-organized JCA-Mauvernay Award in its 15th year
The 2019 JCA-Mauvernay Award, co-organized by the Japanese Cancer Association (JCA) and Swiss global biopharmaceutical company Debiopharm Group, was awarded to Doctors Ryohei Katayama from the Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research and Shinichi Yachida from Osaka University. This year marked the 15th anniversary of the recognition of outstanding research in the field of oncology in Japan.
EU and Japan select first Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Programmes
EU and Japan are partnering up to offer joint degree programs under the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Partnerships. Switzerland is participating as an associate partner in the Master of Science in Imaging and Light in Extended Reality program between Toyohashi University of Technology and the University of Eastern Finland, one of the three programs selected by the European Commission and Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
A miniature stretchable pump for the next generation of soft robots

Scientists at EPFL, in collaboration with researchers at the Shibaura Institute of Technology in Tokyo, Japan, have developed a tiny pump that could play a big role in the development of autonomous soft robots, lightweight exoskeletons and smart clothing. Flexible, silent and weighing only one gram, it is poised to replace the rigid, noisy and bulky pumps currently used. The scientists’ work has just been published in Nature.

Sony Semiconductor Solutions Acquires Network Virtualization Technology Developer Mido Holdings Ltd.

Tokyo, Japan - Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation today announced that it has acquired the network virtualization technology developer Mido Holdings Ltd. by signing a share transfer agreement with the shareholders of Mido Holdings and completing the transfer of shares. Consequently, Mido Holdings has become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Semiconductor Solutions.
