The Innovation Factory: Elmar Mock in Japan

Serial innovator, entrepreneur, lecturer, essayist, co-inventor of Swatch and founder of Creaholic: Mr. Elmar Mock can hardly be described through only one of his many roles and achievements. On his mission to inspire young people and drive their innovation skills, he took a trip to Japan, where he gave lectures at several institutions, e.g., Fujifilm Innovation Hub, Shinagawa Joshi Gakuin, and Sophia University in Tokyo.

The public lecture for students and Swiss Alumni at Sophia University attracted a considerable number of about 60 people. Elmar Mock managed to inspire the young innovators-to-be with his talk on the beginnings of the Swatch and the basic concepts of innovation. Comparing innovation to giving birth to a baby, he provided the students with a perspective they would hardly ever get during their university studies. The following Question & Answer session proved the immediate impact on the students’ way of thinking about IMG_0662innovation. They were eager to ask questions to the expert, who replied with many
anecdotes from his own experience.

The lively discussions continued during the reception which followed the lecture. Swiss wine and cheese, offered by the Embassy of Switzerland, created a relaxed atmosphere for inspiring conversations. And maybe, there is now a baby growing in some of the young innovators’ minds…
