Hitachi is in the final stages of talks to acquire the power grid business of Switzerland's ABB for up to an estimated 800 billion yen ($7.06 billion), seeking to build up its overseas presence in a market poised for rapid growth.

Hitachi Ltd. said Monday it has reached a deal to purchase the power grid business of Swiss engineering group ABB Ltd., initially investing $6.4 billion for an 80.1 percent stake before a complete takeover in the future.
