Aligned with the start of the academic year 2017/18, the Faculty of Informatics at the Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano will offer a new four-semester Master degree program, aiming at meeting the rising demand for application designers and system developers in the field of embedded systems, sophisticated cyber-physical systems and the Internet of Things (IoT) where embedded computational devices communicate with sensors which monitor their environment and the physical world. Further examples can be found in the monitoring of patients in the medical field, or in the application of fertilizer depending on the condition of the soil, as well as in the optimization of energy-efficiency in smart homes. The related industrial field is continuously growing and with it the demand for technology specialists.
The new Master’s offers an interdisciplinary approach, integrating areas such as physical modeling, electronics, informatics, communication and control, and focusing on the most advanced applications using smart technologies. Students should master areas from sensors and actuators to communication, from physical modeling to application design. Moreover, interpersonal skills such as team work, business model development and complex-project management will also be part of the curriculum. The program furthermore offers the possibility for paid summer internships, and project as well as thesis mentorship within its academic and industrial networks, including companies such as IBM, Bosch, ST Microelectronics, or Moviri.
The application is open until June 30 and a number of scholarships and grants are available.
