Toyama Prefectural University, Toyama University and the University of Basel sign academic exchange agreements

Toyama Prefectural University and Toyama University have announced new academic exchange agreements with the University of Basel in Switzerland.

The new agreement between Toyama Prefectural University and the University of Basel encompasses exchange of faculty, researchers and students with an eye on joint research as well as joint lectures and conferences. Toyama Prefectural University hopes to advance exchanges in the fields of biopharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical technologies.

As a first step in the University of Basel and Toyama Prefectural University collaboration, a special lecture by Prof. Michael Hall is planned at the Consortium to create TOYAMA, the Silicon Valley of Pharmaceutical Products in summer 2018.

Separately, Toyama University has upgraded their agreement with Basel University from an inter-faculty agreement to a university-wide academic exchange agreement. Toyama University seeks to further collaborate in the fields of life science, drug development including natural medicine, and medical equipment and technologies.

The Toyama Prefectural government signed a joint memorandum of agreement with the Cantons Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft in Switzerland in 2009. Since then, they have held three symposiums as well as exchanges in the field of medical and pharmaceutical products.
