Switzerland Participates in Study Abroad Fairs

The Science & Technology Office Tokyo participated in two study abroad fairs in May. The first was the European Higher Education Fair (EHEF) on May 16-18 followed by the fair taking place at Aoyama Gakuin University in the afternoon of May 21.

The third EHEF, an annual event organized by the EU delegation to Japan, was again successful with approximately 2’100 visitors (10% up from last year!) attending the three-day event. This fair is unique in that it receives students particularly interested in studying in Europe, and it is held not only in Toyo but also in Kyoto, to better serve prospective students in Western Japan.

The Swiss Universities Booth has always been received with great interest from the visitors, as Switzerland can cater to all of those looking to study in German, French, Italian, as well as English. More than 210 students received individual consulting on studying in Switzerland. Students lined up in front of the Swiss booth even after the closing of the event itself. The prospective students had a broad range of questions and interests in various of Switzerland’s high-ranked universities.

Separately, the Study Abroad Info Day at Aoyama Gakuin University was an afternoon event. Only a few selected countries were invited to present themselves, namely the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, Germany and Switzerland.

Although the fair was not as well attended, Aoyama Gakuin University is keen on enhancing its relationship with Switzerland. The university has an exchange program with the University of Geneva.

The Science & Technology Office Tokyo was pleasantly surprised that students studying German also expressed interest in going to study in Switzerland outside the existing program. As a net result, the event was meaningful in raising awareness of Switzerland among the students.

The S&T Office Tokyo would like to thank Ms. Asuka Nakata, Mr. Yuta Daigi, Ms. Stephanie Santschi, Ms. Isabel Hammer and Ms. Serafina Haefeli for helping out at the Swiss Universities Booth . Their enthusiasm and great experiences helped significantly to promote Switzerland as a superb destination.
