Swiss University Alumni Enjoy Cherry Blossoms at Hanami Event

About 30 Swiss University Alumni gathered to enjoy Japan’s trademark spring sight: The white cherry blossoms in full bloom along the Meguro River in Tokyo. Participants were both from Switzerland and Japan, but all had studied and/ or graduated from a university in Switzerland.

The event, organized by the Science & Technology Office Tokyo, has been traditionally very popular among Swiss Alumni and their friends. This year’s group photo was again shot next to the river and outside the traditional restaurant where the group then gathered for two hours of discussing and exchanging memories of studying in Switzerland.

About 800 cherry trees line Meguro River for several hundred meters and create an amazing sight. In the evening during the Nakameguro Sakura Festival, the trees are lit up and make for an even more impressive view. Hanami literally means “flower viewing”, however, it commonly refers only to cherry blossom viewing.
