Prime Minister Abe opened the STS forum with a persuasive and eloquent speech on how Japan will move forward into the future, mentioning fuel cell vehicles and robotics as a cure for the challenges faced by Japan and the rest of the world.

The event was also used by ETH Zurich’s Executive Vice President Prof. Gerhard Schmitt and Dr. Rahel Byland from ETH Global to hold a meeting with JSPS to discuss the highly successful bilateral scholarship for young researchers. For the first time Assistant Professor Kevin IMG_5170Schawinski (ETH Zurich) was invited by the organizers to participate at the high-level STS forums as a “Young Leader 2014”.

After visiting Toray’s Automotive Research Center in Nagoya, the Swiss delegation did a brief stop at Nagoya Castle before returning to Tokyo.
