Swiss Alumni Hanami BBQ 2016

One of the most important opportunities for the Swiss Alumni community in Japan to get together is the traditional Hanami, annually organised by the Science and Technology Office Tokyo, Embassy of Switzerland. As this year’s event was set during the Easter weekend (Saturday, March 26), the concept was expanded to a Hanami Easter BBQ.

For a change, the location chosen was the Shiokaze Park in Odaiba. Almost thirty Swiss University Alumni and their friends gathered under the palm and Sakura trees. Unfortunately, hardly any cherry blossoms were blooming yet. To add colour, the S&T Office provided hand-painted Easter Eggs to make the event more colorful!

Despite the lack of blossoms, the new concept was a success and everyone was having a great time, also thanks to the nice weather.

A spontaneous yoga class on the leisure sheets, the Easter Egg Battle, the BBQ-ing itself and even the cleaning of greasy grill plates with cold water afterwards turned the Alumni Hanami 2016 into a fun and very unique event.

Many thanks to all the participants for making the lack of blossoms seem unimportant! And a special thank you to Michael Vogelsanger (UZH) who had suggested the format of this event.
