Pre-Joint Committee Meeting Site Visit at EPFL
After having arrived on Wednesday in Geneva, the delegation from Japan visiting Switzerland for the Joint Committee Meeting on Science and Technology Cooperation, visited the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne EPFL.
The first stop at EPFL was held at the Institute of Physics of Energy and Particles (IPEP) where Prof. Tatsuya Nakada gave an introduction to their research and international collaboration also with Japan.
After a fascinating tour through the research center and the Tokamak facilities, the Japanese delegation continued their tour with a visit of the Rolex Learning Center designed by Japanese architects Sanaa.
Back in a meeting room, Prof. Morgenthaler, Dean of International Relations, briefly introduced EPFL, its organization and its internationality. Prof. Hannes Bleuler gave a Japanese-English bilingual presentation on his and his colleague’s research on robotics at EPFL. Prof. Henry Markram, leader of the FP7 Human Brain Project, impressed all the visitors with the presentation on his billion dollar project.
The whole delegation then left for the business school IMD where Ambassador Makoto Katsura delivered the Keynote Speech, discussing Japan’s Science, Technology and Innovation policy.
