Last Alumni Event of the Year in Osaka
For this year’s last Swiss Kansai Alumni gathering its organizer Aurelio Cortese, PhD student at NAIST, chose Osaka as the place to gather. The Swiss Alumni started with a walk through a German-themed Christmas market located at Umeda Sky Building: more than 20 huts were offering countless types of German specialties, but the “Glühwein” was indispensable for most of the gatherers to properly enjoy the cold winter. The Umeda Christmas Market is well known for its gigantic Christmas tree decorated with more than 100,000 lights.
Just before it got dark and the temperature dropped, the group reached the top of the Grand Front building, in time to appreciate the sunset in a restaurant specialized in bakery. While some of the participants enjoyed the fresh bread, others scrutinized the sky for the Geminid meteor shower or were simply discussing and recalling good memories.
After the dinner, Aurelio Cortese and Chi-Binh Trieu, trainee at the Science & Technology Office, gave a short speech and presented the Science & Technology Office Tokyo’s activities during the whole anniversary year; this was a great opportunity for some the Japanese guests to hear more about the 150 years of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Japan.
In conclusion, even in a cold and year-end month, the Swiss Kansai Alumni gathering was really appreciated by all the participants and their friends.
