Japanese Professor Publishes “Schwiizertüütsch” Book
Kumasaka Ryo is an Assistant Professor for German Linguistics at Hokkai Gakuen University, Faculty of Engineering and very recently published “Iifüerig i s Schwiizertüütsch”, a “Uusspraach, Woortbildig, Wokabulaar, Satzbou, Spraachbruuch und Dialäktpflääg”, a Swiss German language book, complete with phrases, vocabulary, pronunciations, dialect variants, word and sentence structures for the Japanese public.
In 2009, Kumasaka was assigned the Price of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of German Literature. He has published several works on Swiss German Linguistics, focusing thereby not only on grammatical peculiarities of the Alemannic idioms, but also on the social position of dialects within Swiss-German society. In his previous work, published in 2011, Kumasaka provides the Japanese speaking public an introduction to Switzerland’s Germanic idioms of a rare quality.
Previously, he studied at Zürich University where he was supported by a scholarship from SERI.
