ERC Consolidator Grants 2017 awarded to nine Swiss institutions

The European Research Council (ERC) announced the result of the calls for the 2017 Consolidator Grants. Twenty-two countries beneficiated from the grants, in the fields of social sciences/humanities, physical sciences/engineering and life sciences.
The whole consolidator programme, worth a total of about 630 million euros, is intended for advanced post-doctoral researchers (7 to 12 years after the PhD) who wish to have a little more independence and consolidate their team.

This year, nine institutions from Switzerland beneficiated from the grants, including the ETH Zurich, EPFL, the University of Bern, the University of Lausanne and the University of Zurich.

The 2017 Consolidator programme is funding 329 projects of the 2538 submitted, which represents a success rate of 13%. The grants will create an estimated 2000 jobs for postdocs, PhD students and other staff working in the grantees’ research teams.

The ERC was created in 2007 and is part of EU’s Research and Innovation Funding Program “Horizon 2020” (H2020). Find more about the different grants here.
