Switzerland n°2 on IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2013
IMD, The top-ranked global business school based in Switzerland, released its 25th anniversary World Competitiveness Rankings. Switzerland ranked 2nd, up one position from last year’s ranking. U.S., Switzerland and Honk Kong share the top positions for the second consecutive year. IMD analysis shows that Switzerland’s competitiveness relies upon export-oriented manufacturing, diversified economies, strong small and medium enterprises (SME) and fiscal discipline. In the European Union context of austerity, recovery is delayed and only a few countries, e.g., Germany and Sweden, show a similar trend as Switzerland.
The World Competitiveness Rankig ranks and analyzes the ability of nations to create and maintain an environment in which enterprises can compete. Economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency and infrastructures are the main factors influencing the competitiveness index of a country.
