Captivating Lecture for Swiss University Alumni

On invitation by Prof. Hae Bong Shin, graduate of HEID, Geneva and Professor for International Law at Aoyama Gakuin University, Prof. Marco Sassòli from the University of Geneva gave a captivating and timely presentation titled “International Humanitarian Law  and International Human Rights Law: the Tragical Case Study of Syria” to more than 40 attentive listeners, many of them graduates from francophone Swiss Universities, mainly the University of Geneva. The opening speech was therefore given in French by Mrs. Anja Siebold Bucher, herself an Alumni of the University of Geneva and wife of the Ambassador of Switzerland to Japan.

The event targeting Alumni of HEID and the University of Geneva (but open to the public) was a great success: The very interesting presentation on a current topic by Prof. Sassòli lead to intense discussions, which continued during the Apéro provided by the Science & Technology Office Tokyo of the Embassy of Switzerland. Prof. Sassòli was delighted to meet so many familiar faces and Alumni from Geneva, far away from Geneva, and felt as if he had not left his home-university, he chuckled.

Prof. Sassoli traveled to Japan to participate at the International Humanitarian Law Symposium at the University of Kyoto, another event related to the 150th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Switzerland.
This lecture was co-organized by Prof. Shin (Aoyama Gakuin University), Alumni UNIGE and the Science & Technology Office, Embassy of Switzerland in Japan.
