A high-level delegation headed by Dr. Yuko Harayama (Executive Member CSTI, Cabinet Office) visited Switzerland for two days in September. The delegation, consisting of Japanese funding agency executives and researchers, came to Switzerland to learn more about the innovation policy contributing to Switzerland’s innovativeness.
During the dense two-day program set up in collaboration with the S&T Office Tokyo and the State Secretariat of Education, Research and Innovation, the delegation visited several key institutions from Zurich over Aargau, Bern and Lausanne to Geneva.
The first stop lead the interested visitors from Japan to IBM Zurich Research Lab in Rueschlikon where Dr. Karin Vey introduced the history as well as the current research and Dr. Germann brought the delegation to the Binning and Rohrer Nanotechnology Center, a collaboration between IBM and ETH Zurich. Further visits included ETH Zurich, University of Zurich, FHNW, PSI, Innovaare, as well as EPFL in Lausanne and Biotech Campus in Geneva.
“We cannot be a copy of Silicon Valley, we can only be a better version of ourselves.” – Ms. Sunnie J. Groeneveld, Managing Director, DigitalZurich2025
Let’s hope that this visit will lead to even more exchange and collaboration between Japan and Switzerland!
