3rd Japan-Switzerland Joint Committee Meeting on Science & Technology Cooperation
On Thursday, December 14, the State Secretariat of Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) hosted the 3rd Joint Committee Meeting on Science & Technology Cooperation between Switzerland and Japan. Head of the delegation were Ambassador Makoto Katsura from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Ambassador Mauro Moruzzi from SERI.
The meeting was opened by State Secretary Dr. Dell’Ambroggio with a welcome speech on the importance of our two country’s collaboration, and on the long-lasting history – 150 years! – and friendship between Japan and Switzerland.
After the two Ambassadors had agreed on the schedule, both countries introduced their recent S&T policies. The following two sessions discussed the successful cooperation between Switzerland and Japan in the domain of particle physics and disaster management.
The tight schedule after lunch covered the cooperation between the funding agencies, the strategic Japanese-Swiss Cooperative Program on Medical Research, the current instruments under the bilateral program, as well as the discussion on the continuation of the bilateral program.
In his closing statement, Ambassador Moruzzi stated that the cooperation was an excellent one, and that we should aim for further, deeper and larger cooperations for the future. Ambassador Katsura replied that this joint committee meeting was a good opportunity to enhance the friendship between old friends.
